What’s New for the Mustang in 2026?

The new 2026 Ford Mustang is back for another year of thrilling performance and miles of fun. The latest model year brings a few exciting additions, including the powerful new Mustang Dark Horse SC and the new 2026 Ford Mustang FX package.

According to Car and Driver, the Ford Mustang Dark Horse SC model follows in the footsteps of the discontinued Mustang Shelby GT500. Featuring a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 engine, the Dark Horse SC is a force to be reckoned with, to say the least.

The 2026 Ford Mustang FX package honors the iconic Fox-body design seen in the ‘80s and ‘90s, perfectly balancing the nostalgia of the muscle car’s past with the modern features drivers have come to enjoy and expect.

You can also look forward to new Ford Mustang 2026 color options for the exterior and new color options for the seatbelts.

Engine Options & Performance

Three engine options power the new Ford Mustang, each offering their own style of performance for the road ahead.

Equipped with a modified Gen-4 5.0-liter Coyote V8 engine, the Dark Horse and Dark Horse Premium trim levels boast an astounding 500 horsepower and 418 lb-ft of torque with every press of the accelerator.

Still powerful, though overshadowed by the modified V8, the Gen-4 5.0-liter Coyote V8 is found in the GT trim levels. Capable of delivering up to 486 horsepower and 418 lb-ft of torque, this engine is not one to shy away from a challenge.

Rounding out the engine options is the turbocharged 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine, boasting 315 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque and ensuring every mile counts with its Modular Power Cylinder (MPC) engine architecture.

Other performance highlights include:

  • Available class-first2 drift-brake
  • Electronic line-lock
  • Selectable drive modes (Normal, Sport, Slippery, Drag, Track, MyMode)
