The car industry continues to shift toward a fuel-free future, embracing modern technology to eventually leave traditional, gas-fueled models in the rearview. Ready to spend less time at the pump and more time pursuing all that lies on the road ahead? Choosing the right model for you starts with getting informed, and we can help! First off, both electric and hybrid vehicles feature electric motors. Hybrids models, however, also utilize a gas engine to extend driving range over all-electric models.

Read on to learn more about Ford’s hybrid and electric offerings, and to determine which vehicle is the perfect match!

Going Electric

While some drivers are hesitant to make the leap to all-electric, Ford is all-in. In fact, the brand has invested $22 billion in electrifying its lineup through 2025. Ford has already released electric versions of some of its most iconic models, like the Mustang, F-150, and Transit.

The all-electric Mustang Mach-E is available now, presenting a speedy SUV option that races from zero to 60 with the pulse-pounding speed its namesake is known for. Drivers will also enjoy access to the latest technology and over-the-air Ford Power-Up software updates. Choose from four diverse models – Select, Premium, California Route 1, and GT – with upscale features added as you move up tier by tier.

The E-Transit makes its debut as the electric variant of America’s best-selling van. With modern tech features, like high-speed in-vehicle data architecture and cloud-based services, the E-transit not only maximizes performance but convenience too. Plus, it’s available in three lengths, three roof heights, and three unique models: the Cargo Van, Chassis Cab, and Cutaway.

The F-150 Lightning has sparked rave reviews, putting an electric spin on a model that’s reigned supreme for decades. The Lightning harnesses the incredible power and towing capacity the F-150 is renowned for, maintaining capability despite ditching its gas-powered engine. Built Ford Tough as always, this electric version of America’s top truck comes in four trim levels: Lightning Pro, XLT, Lariat, and Platinum.

There’s no denying that Ford’s electric lineup is sure to stun. In addition to these must-drive models, Ford has added a variety of home charging solutions. It has also constructed North America’s largest public charging network to accommodate drivers on the move, with more than 63,000 plugs and counting! Ford even offers cloud-connected navigation to direct drivers to nearby charging stations or plug-in spots along their route – with easy payment via FordPass!

The Hybrid Way of Life

Hybrid vehicles pair an ultra-efficient electric motor with a gasoline engine to offer a taste of electric performance without the worry of plugging in to power up. Hybrids can be a good transition between traditional, gas vehicles and all-electric models as they max out fuel economy and minimize environmental impact.

Here’s how hybrids work: The electric motor allows the engine to shut off at low speeds and when coasting, with regenerative braking that recharges the battery pack. Plug-in hybrids (PHEV) are yet another eco-friendly option, relying on electric power alone for short drives, with the range of gas engines for longer hauls. PHEVs are equipped with larger batteries than other hybrid models, achieving an all-electric range of about 20 to 40 miles. Ford has already launched a few hybrid models – and there’s more on the way for 2024!

The 2023 Ford Escape Hybrid SUV is available as a traditional hybrid and plug-in hybrid, offering the roomy seating, upscale styling, and agile handling the compact crossover SUV is known for. Need more space? The three-row 2023 Ford Explorer Hybrid provides ample space for cargo and crew, along with a comprehensive suite of safety features – and great towing capacity too!

The 2023 Ford Maverick Hybrid is a compact yet capable pickup, utilizing the latest technology to achieve fantastic fuel efficiency and a smooth, steady ride. That’s not all! Ford has promised that three new hybrid models will cruise out of production in 2024.
