2023 North American Truck of the Year: Ford F-150 Lightning 

Equipped with dual electric motors and one of two battery pack options, the 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning holds nothing back. It’s no wonder this all-electric pickup truck has been outperforming the competition since its debut – and continuing to spark interest among Ford’s biggest fans! 

The 2023 F-150 Lightning’s distinction is a major honor, with the most recent accolade its third straight NACTOY Truck of the Year award. To be eligible, vehicles must be new to the market or significantly redesigned from previous model years. Automotive journalists throughout North America then select the superior model, based on factors like performance, design, safety, technology, and more. 

The next F-150 Lightning is rumored to be even more future-focused, with Ford Motors promising a new user interface designed to enhance drivers’ experience behind the wheel. 

Highlights of the 2023 F-150 Lightning

With similar styling to the iconic F-150, the electrified Lightning features a distinctive Carbon Black grille, 18-inch wheels, dynamic LED headlights, and more. It’s boxier appearance has a futuristic vibe, with nine eye-catching paint colors available.

Harness up to 452 horses with the standard battery pack or pair the electric motor with an extended range battery to deliver an astounding 580 horsepower and 775 lb-ft of torque. That means you’ll soar from zero to 60 mph in just four seconds – an incredible feat for an electric pickup! 

And like its traditional gas-powered sibling, the F-150 Lightning can haul heavy loads with ease. Standard battery models boast a 7,700-pound towing capacity, while extended range models can tow an impressive 10,000 pounds! No matter how hefty the load, the Lightning’s independent rear suspension and lower center of gravity ensures a smooth ride.

And with no need for gas station stops, you’ll spend more time on the road! The entry level battery pack provides a 230-mile range, while extended range batteries boast a 320-mile range. Drivers can charge at home via 110- and 220-volt outlets, or at public DC fast-charging stations. True to their name, these stations charge from 15% to 80% in just 44 minutes!

This electric vehicle offers the best in cabin comfort too, with a roomy interior designed to seat five comfortably. In addition to its large bed, the front trunk provides more storage space – 14.1 cubic feet! Don’t forget all your favorite infotainment features, like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth connectivity, Bang & Olufsen sound system, 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot, and the SYNC 4 operating system (speech recognition available in Lightning Pro models).
